Vol. 170 No. 5

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business as on the Order Paper, Nos. 13, 6 and 7 and in No. 7, Votes Nos. 36, 3 and 14. It is proposed that the House should continue in session until 12 midnight and, as I understand a motion is required for the House to sit later than 11 p.m. to discharge the Order of Business, I move accordingly.

You want to sit until midnight to discuss the Taoiseach's Estimate tonight?

Until midnight, yes. It is agreed.

May I ask the Minister if the Government has fixed any date for the reassembly?

I would be grateful if the Deputy would put that question to the Tánaiste to-morrow but I think it will be towards the end of October, about the 22nd October.

Might I ask the Minister for Health if there is any likelihood of Motion No. 14 in Private Members' business being resumed— that is the motion standing in the names of Deputy O'Donnell and myself—before the House goes into recess?

It has not been mentioned in the discussions with the Whips and I am not in a position to give an answer to that question.

Perhaps the Minister for Justice would be able to tell us whether the investigation which he instituted is still continuing?

The Deputy knows very well that the Gardaí are investigating that matter. He understands that——

What I do not understand is the length of time the Gardaí are taking to investigate what is a relatively simple matter.

This is not a matter on the Order of Business. It is an abuse of a privilege.

It is proposed that the House sit until 12 midnight.

Do I understand that No. 1 on the Order Paper is not being taken?

No. It has not been ordered. It may be taken to-morrow. The Tánaiste will be here to-morrow.

Do I understand the Apprenticeship Bill will be moved to-morrow?

I think so.

Is it clear that the Appropriations Bill will be moved to-morrow?

But not until after the Estimates?

Not until after the Estimates.

But it is likely to be taken to-morrow?

Yes, is that not the agreement—that it be taken to-morrow?

Motion—"That the House continues in session until midnight"—put and agreed to.
