Vol. 170 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Salaries.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the cost of bringing the salary scales for single men and women in the general service grades of the Civil Service up to the scales for married men.

It would not be possible without a disproportionate expenditure of time and labour to produce an accurate costing of the salary changes for general service grades referred to by the Deputy. On the basis of a very approximate calculation it has been estimated that the cost would be of the order of £230,000 a year, but this figure must be treated with considerable reserve.
