Vol. 171 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Kerry Fuel Supplies.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the Forestry Division have acquired land in South Kerry for afforestation purposes from which large tracts of scrub and timber suitable only for firewood must be cleared; and, if so, whether in view of the scarcity of fuel in South Kerry arising from the very severe summer he will arrange to have this material made available to nearby residents at a reasonable price.

I understand that the Deputy is referring to Parknasilla property of Kenmare forest. The forester at Kenmare has been given authority to dispose of firewood in this area by local sale. I am informed that there are large quantities of such material available there so that all local demands should be met.
