Vol. 171 No. 5

Order of Business.

Business, as set out on the Order Paper, will be taken as follows: Nos. 6, 7 and 8. Questions will be taken at 3 p.m. or on the conclusion of business, if business should be concluded before 3 p.m.

Will the Tánaiste say what are the sitting days next week?

My guess would be that one day should suffice for the business ordered next week. Three Bills are down for discussion. It is possible that we could complete the three of them in one day.

The Tánaiste will remember that I asked last week—not in the House but through the usual channels, to use the appropriate euphemism—for time next week to deal with motion No. 4.

Is what is on the Order Paper all the legislation the Government has ready? Is any more forthcoming?

There will be more forthcoming in this session.

Before Christmas?

Before Christmas.

Will we see the P.R. Bill before Christmas?

I expect so.

Do you want it passed before Christmas? Are you giving second thoughts to it?

It is possible that the motion referred to by Deputy Sweetman will come up next week in Private Members' time. I shall consider it. If one day should not suffice for the business ordered for next week, we would sit on the second day.

There is not two days' work for next week. Is that not so?

That is a matter of opinion.

Can you not do any better than produce this kind of agenda?

A considerable amount of very useful work has been done.

Does the Tánaiste remember that last year also, in November, the Dáil had to adjourn, missing a week, because the Government could not produce more business?

Or else because the business was of such a high quality that it went through more quickly.

The Government are on strike.
