Vol. 171 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sunday Work on State Forests.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the reasons for the issue of circular 45/58 concerning Sunday work on State forests; why Sunday work is necessary; and if he will place a copy of this circular in the Library.

Because of the unusually wet weather during the past few months, mechanical ploughing of ground prior to planting has fallen behind schedule. If this position is not rectified quickly a reduction in the planting programme will be unavoidable and the staff who would otherwise be engaged on planting will have to be laid off. Additional plough units of suitable type are not readily available. The answer to the last part of the Deputy's question is in the negative.
