Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hire-Purchase Schemes.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if in view of the increase in the number of new hire-purchase schemes he will introduce legislation to ensure that the vendor will display clearly (a) the cash price of the article, (b) the deposit and the total number of payments, and (c) the total of (b).

The Government approved some months ago of the promotion of amending legislation in relation to hire purchase and a Bill is at present in course of preparation. The amendments contemplated cover, inter alia, the matters mentioned in the question.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what is the maximum permissible interest rate allowed on hire-purchase transactions.

There is no statutory control over interest rates charged in connection with hire-purchase transactions.
