asked the Minister for Education if he will state for each year from 1934 to 1958, inclusive, the amount (a) allocated as provided in the Book of Estimates and (b) spent from State funds on school buildings (primary), segregating the total under (b) for each year into (i) expenditure on buildings, (ii) expenditure on repairs to buildings and (iii) otherwise.
Written Answers. - Primary Schools: Amounts Allocated and Expended.
Mr. Lynch
The attached statement gives particulars of the amount of the State grants (a) provided in the Estimates for Public Services for, and (b) expended on, the erection of new national schools and the enlargement and improvement of existing national schools in each year during the period covered by the Deputy's question.
I regret that, as the records kept by the Commissioners of Public Works do not distinguish between expenditure on new national schools and on works at existing national schools respectively, I am unable to segregate the expenditure in each year in the manner requested in the Deputy's question.
The following is the statement:—
