Vol. 171 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dismissals from Galway Drainage Scheme.

54.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number of men dismissed from the drainage scheme in Fahy, Eyrecourt, County Galway; and whether alternative employment will be found for these men.

I presume the Deputy is referring to turbary development being carried out by the Land Commission at Tullinlicky. Originally 16 men were employed on drainage and roadmaking in connection with this bog but, as conditions did not remain suitable for drainage work, it became necessary to lay off ten of the men. It is hoped, however, that it may soon be possible to re-employ some of these men on road work—even for a short period.
