asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the publicity campaign undertaken in recent years by Córas Tráchtála Teoranta for the sale of Irish bloodstock in America was financed by public funds or by the various bloodstock interests.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Irish Bloodstock in America.
The only expenditure directly incurred by Córas Tráchtála Teoranta in publicising Irish bloodstock in America in recent years was, firstly, the cost of circulating to 3,000 racing and bloodstock interests the publication Irish Racing and Breeding—which was supplied free of charge by the Irish Racing Board—and, secondly, of bringing to Ireland a leading American racing correspondent to report in American papers on our bloodstock industry. These matters are referred to at greater length in pages 37 and 38 of Córas Tráchtála Teoranta's Annual Report for 1957-58, which has been presented to the House. The costs involved were small and were met out of Córas Tráchtála Teoranta Grant-in-Aid.
Other valuable publicity in the form of many favourable articles on Irish bloodstock in the American Press and racing journals and films, radio comments and television features on the achievements of Irish horses resulted from the general publicity relations activities of Córas Tráchtála Teoranta and was obtained free of charge.
