Vol. 173 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Hospital Patient's Death.

10.

asked the Minister for Health whether he has received from the Waterford Board of Public Assistance a request for a copy of the report of his Department's inspector on the alleged failure of the responsible authorities to have a seriously ill woman taken to a Waterford hospital on 14th September, 1958, for urgent treatment, and on the subsequent death of this woman on 15th September, 1958, a few hours after being admitted to hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Waterford Board of Public Assistance have inquired whether it is proposed to make available the inspector's report on this matter. I propose to inform the board that it is contrary to practice to supply reports of the Department's inspectors to local authorities. Following consideration of the report, my findings will be forwarded to the local authority as soon as possible.
