Vol. 173 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Harbour Development.

8.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is proposed to carry out any improvements or developments at Dún Laoghaire Harbour; and, if so, if he will state the extent of the proposed improvements or developments, and the estimated cost.

Proposals for further improvement works at Dún Laoghaire Harbour, designed to facilitate passenger handling on the pier and to provide for the handling of a limited number of passenger-accompanied motor cars, are at present under consideration. It is not yet possible to indicate the extent or the cost of these works. It has become essential to replace the present substructure of the pier in reinforced concrete at a cost of the order of £400,000. This work is now only at the planning stage and will take a number of years to complete.

Can the Minister say if it is the plans or the work that will take a number of years to complete? When is the work likely to commence?

The work of underpinning the pier with reinforced concrete substructure will take some years.
