Vol. 173 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat and Barley Floor Prices.

25.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the increased charges to farmers as a result of the recent increase in agricultural wages, he will raise the floor price on wheat and barley to offset their increased costs of production.

Does the Minister appreciate the fact that the prices of wheat and barley were higher in the period of office of the inter-Party Government than they now are? In relation to this recent increase, how can farmers offset the extra charge, if they do not get some consideration from the Government?

I agree that every additional charge has brought some hardship to the producer, but I hardly think an increase of this size will have such a shattering effect on the costs of the grain producers.

So the answer is still "no". That is the way to talk.

One shilling a gallon.

Ten "bob" a calf.

Do not frighten me.

I am looking at the gentlemen who are sitting behind the Minister and who are frightened of him.

So long as the Deputy is not trying to frighten me, it is all right.
