Vol. 173 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cheese Imports.

2.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the quantity and value of cheese imported in 1958.

The quantity of cheese imported in the year 1958 was 1,698 cwt. valued at £30,695.

Is it not high time that the home market was reserved for Irish-made cheese? Is it not also high time to ensure that when Irish cheese is exported it will be sold at a reasonable price?

That surely is a separate matter.

I would refer the Parliamentary Secretary to a letter in The Kerryman last week——

That surely is a separate matter.

——in which it was stated that cheese is being sold in America at 15/6 a lb.

That is a separate matter.

That matter is not the concern of the Statistics Branch.
