NOTES:
(1) The financial year 1949-50 was the first year in which grants were made available under the Local Authorities (Works) Act, 1949, which became law in July, 1949.
(2) There was some slight employment in a number of areas in the first quarter of the financial year 1957-58 due to the fact that local authorities were granted extensions of time for completion of 1956-57 schemes.
(3) Grants for new schemes were not allocated in 1957-58 or 1958-59. The payments made in these two years represented outstanding commitments in respect of grants allocated in previous years.
(4) The employment figure given for the financial year 1949-50 represents the average number of men employed per month in respect of the eight months in which schemes were in progress in that year, viz. August, 1949, to March, 1950.
