Vol. 174 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Liability of Insurance Companies in Traffic Accident Cases.

10.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that insurance companies are repudiating liability to pay hospital and medical expenses of persons injured in traffic accidents where such persons are insured persons under the Social Welfare Acts, or are holders of medical cards under the Health Acts, thus imposing on the Exchequer and on local authorities expenditure which is proper to insurance companies, and which was payable by insurance companies before the Health Act, 1953, came into operation; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy this unsatisfactory situation.

I am aware of difficulties which have arisen in this respect. The question is being considered in connection with proposed legislation.
