Vol. 174 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Interest on Exchequer Advances.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state for 1955/56 and each succeeding year the amount by which the receipts for interest on Exchequer advances exceeded the amount received in the preceding year; and why he has only estimated for an increase of £126,000 in such receipts for 1959/60.

The information requested in the first part of the Deputy's question is available for each of the years referred to from the relevant White Paper—"Estimates of Receipts and Expenditure"—presented annually to Dáil Éireann.

As regards the second part of the Deputy's question, factors operating to reduce the estimate for 1959/60 were the writing off under the Transport Act, 1958, of the interest-bearing Exchequer advances to Córas Iompair Éireann and the Great Northern Railway Board, repayments of capital by the Road Fund, decreases in 1958/59 in advances under the Local Loans Acts and the Electricity Supply Acts and the fall in interest rates during that year.
