Vol. 174 No. 9

Committee on Finance. - Finance Bill, 1959—First Stage.

I move that leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to charge and impose certain duties of Customs and Inland Revenue (including Excise), to amend the law relating to Customs and Inland Revenue (including Excise) and to make further provisions in connection with Finance.

It is a long complicated Bill and I am afraid that I would not be able to have it before 20th May.

Will there be a White Paper?

Last year I found great difficulty in trying to get out a White Paper but I will see if it is possible.

If the Bill is long and complicated I am sure the Minister will appreciate our difficulty.

The White Paper will also be long and complicated but I shall see if it is possible to get it out. I think it would be best to put it down for the 20th May and unless it is circulated a week before that, we will not take it.

We will want a full week at least to consider it.

Question put and agreed to.
Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, 20th May.
