Vol. 174 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Sewing Machine Components.

4.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if parts of sewing machines are imported from Japan, altered in this country, and exported to England, and, if so, if he will state by what company; whether any State aid has been given to this company, and who are its directors.

Several companies are engaged in the assembly here, for export to countries abroad, including England, of sewing machines made from parts imported from Japan. No financial aid has been provided by the State to any of the companies concerned.

It would be contrary to established practice to disclose in relation to individual companies the other particulars sought by the Deputy.
