Vol. 174 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prohibition of Film Recordings.

31.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why Radio Éireann have prohibited recordings from the film "Gigi", in view of the fact that such recordings from the B.B.C., Radio Luxembourg, and A.F.N. do not seem to contain anything even vaguely doubtful in any respect.

This is the sort of decision that I leave entirely to the broadcasting authorities. In this case I understand that the Director of Broadcasting has exercised his own discretion as to what is or is not suitable for broadcasting on the Irish national service.

Would the Minister consider asking Radio Eireann to prohibit jazz versions of old Irish tunes on Radio Eireann?

Perhaps he would suggest to them that they confine us to dirges, having regard to the state of things.
