Vol. 175 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Kildare Lands.

17.

asked the Minister for Lands what lands, if any, in the vicinity of Sallins, County Kildare, have been acquired by the Land Commission for division; whether proceedings are in progress for the acquisition of any lands in the area; and, if so, if he will state the name and the location of the lands in question.

In this district, the lands on hands aggregate to 380 acres in the townlands of Turnings Upper, Eadestown, Mullacash Middle and Clane, on the Mills, Shiels, O'Connor and O'Neill properties. Proceedings are in progress for two other estates, namely H.T. O'Neill estate, Clane, and Malone Estate, Fleshtown.

The special effort to dispose of lands on hands in Kildare, as elsewhere, is continuing. During the past two financial years, a total area of 2,777 acres was allotted in Kildare, and a further 538 acres were allotted last month.

May I take it from the Minister's reply that there are no proposals on hands for the acquisition of lands in Sallins?

The question refers to the district of Sallins. If the Deputy reads the reply, I think he will find all the information there.

It is a pretty long walk from some of the places mentioned to Sallins.

A walk might do the Deputy good.

The Minister could not be allowed out for a walk without a keeper.
