Vol. 175 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballynoe (Cork) National School.

16.

asked the Minister for Education when the building of a new national school at Ballynoe, County Cork, is likely to commence.

A grant has been sanctioned by my Department towards the cost of erecting a new national school at Ballynoe, Co. Cork.

The arrangements for the erection of the new school are in the hands of the Commissioners of Public Works. I am informed by the Commissioners that only a few items remain to be cleared up in order to complete the preparatory work in connection with the invitation of tenders. While I am not at present in a position to say when the building of the school is likely to commence, I do not anticipate that there will be any undue delay.

May I take it that the Minister will spare no effort to expedite the erection of this school?

The building of the school has been placed very high on the priority list in my Department. The few remaining items that now require to be cleared up depend on the expedition with which they are dealt with by the school manager and the local authority. As soon as those items have been overcome, I can assure the Deputy there will be no delay.
