Vol. 175 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Slaney Fishing Inquiry.

7.

asked the Minister for Lands if it is intended to publish the report of the sworn inquiry held at Tullow on 17th September, 1958, relative to fishing on the Slaney; and, if so, when.

8.

asked the Minister for Lands what decisions, if any, have been reached as a result of the inquiry in connection with fishing on the river Slaney held at Tullow on 17th September, 1958.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions 7 and 8 together.

I have not yet reached a decision on the application for a fishery bye-law for the River Slaney in connection with which a Public Inquiry was held at Tullow on 17th September, 1958. I may say that at an earlier stage in considering this matter I had come to the conclusion that any bye-law which might be made should not come into effect during the present fishing season.

I do not think the Minister answered the question as to when the report is to be published. I could not hear him very well.

I said I had not reached a decision on the application for a fishery bye-law, so that I am not able to say what the next stage will be.

Does the report appear before or after the Minister makes his decision? That, I think, is what is in Deputy Esmonde's question?

I have to inquire into that, in regard to the particular nature of this report.
