Vol. 176 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Recruitment of Forestry Workers.

2.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that there is a growing tendency in the recruitment of forestry workers to employ persons who are owners of land, while unemployed persons with no means whatever are passed over; and if he will ensure that in future priority will be given to the latter.

I am not aware of any tendency of the nature suggested by the Deputy. Forestry employees are recruited from lists obtained from the local Employment Exchanges and subject to their general suitability priority is given to applicants in receipt of Unemployment Assistance and Unemployment Benefit.
