asked the Taoiseach whether there has been any change in the remuneration of the directors of (1) Bord na Móna, (2) Córas Iompair Éireann, (3) Electricity Supply Board and (4) An Bord Uchtála, since 20th March, 1957, and if he will state the name of any person appointed as a director of these concerns since that date, who was not immediately prior thereto a director.

The reply to the Deputy's question is as follows:—

(1) Bord na Móna:

Mr. Dermot Colman Lawlor was appointed to be a member and the Managing Director of the Board for a period of five years beginning on the 5th September, 1958, in succession to Dr. Christopher Stephen Andrews. His remuneration was fixed at £3,500 a year, as compared with £3,000 a year applicable to Dr. Andrews. There have been no other changes since the 20th March, 1957, in the remuneration of the directors or in the membership of the Board.

(2) Córas Iompair Éireann:

There has been no change in the remuneration of the directors of the Board since the 20th March, 1957.

When the Board was reconstituted with effect from the 1st September, 1958, Dr. Christopher Stephen Andrews was appointed to be the Chairman for a period of five years beginning on the 1st September, 1958. Part-time members of the Board appointed at that time who were not directors immediately prior to the 20th March, 1957, were Mr. Thomas Patrick Hogan, who had been appointed originally as a director on the 13th August, 1957, and Messrs. Martin F. Molony and William McMullen, former members of the Great Northern Railway Board.

(3) Electricity Supply Board:

The remuneration of the Chairman of the Board was increased from £3,500 a year to £4,200 a year with effect from the 19th December, 1958. A motor-car allowance of £300 a year, previously payable to him, terminated at the same time.

Mr. Tomás Ó Muireadhaigh was appointed to be a full-time member of the Board for the period beginning on the 1st June, 1959, and ending on the 30th April, 1960, at remuneration of £3,700 a year. Mr. Brendan O'Carroll was appointed to be a part-time member of the Board for a period of five years beginning on the 1st June, 1959.

(4) An Bord Uchtála:

The members of An Bord Uchtála are not in receipt of any remuneration.

Mrs. Philip T. Brooks, Mrs. William I. Hamill, Mr. John James McConnell and Dr. John C. Saunders were appointed to be members of the Board for a period of five years with effect from the 6th January, 1958, in place of four outgoing members who had indicated that they did not wish to be reappointed.
