Vol. 176 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Questions Regarding Statutory Bodies.

2.

asked the Taoiseach if he will introduce legislation to enable members of the Dáil to ask questions regarding statutory bodies who receive assistance from State funds.

The answer is in the negative.

In view of the feeling expressed here yesterday, the Taoiseach is aware of the general grievance that exists on this score. Will he agree to considering some means of satisfying Deputies who seek information in order to redress grievances?

As I informed the Deputy yesterday when the matter was under discussion, questions regarding the policy of any of these boards will, of course, be very fully answered, but Ministers cannot be expected to take responsibility for matters which are, by law, the concern of the boards themselves.

Those people have a monopoly. If it were a private concern the public would have some redress. I suggest again that the Taoiseach should give consideration to this matter and members of this House should have some means of making representations on behalf of people in matters relating to administration.
