(i) Total Employment, week ended 9-10-1959: 4,702.

(ii) Total Employment at Forests where Incentive Bonus Scheme is in operation: 1,759.

(iii) Total Employment at Forests at (ii) immediately prior to introduction of Scheme: 1,793.

Notes regarding basic wage rates;

(a)The basic weekly rates as set out above are those obtaining for time work, i.e. they exclude additional earnings under the Incentive Bonus Scheme.

(b)In Counties Dublin and Kildare the present basic rates are lower than the former rates; any employees who enjoyed the former rates retain them in the form of a special allowance, which when the Incentive Bonus Scheme has been applied at their Forests, guarantees total earnings not lower than the previous rates.

As regards part (e) of the question, application of the Scheme in the next six months will continue to be concentrated in the eastern and southern parts of the country in Counties Wicklow, Wexford, Waterford, Cork and Kerry but it is expected that the scheme will also be extensively applied in other parts of the Country. It would be misleading to furnish a nominal list of Forests where the Scheme is likely to be introduced in the period since application planning must necessarily be flexible and subject to adjustment as circumstances require.

As regards part (f) of the question, average bonus earnings for Forests where the Incentive Bonus Scheme was in operation for each month of 1959 to date were as follows:—

Month

Average bonus earned per hour

January, 1959

5½d.

February, 1959

6½d.

March, 1959

6d.

April, 1959

6½d.

May, 1959

6½d.

June, 1959

7d.

July, 1959

7d.

August, 1959

September, 1959
