In connection with professional officers, these may opt to receive retired pay based on one of the following alternatives:—

(1) in the case of medical, dental and legal officers, the retired pay of a Line officer increased by 20% and, in the case of all other professional officers, a Line officer's retired pay increased by 10%, or

(2) retired pay based on whichever of the following amounts is the lesser—

(i) in the case of a single officer 20/33 of his annual pay at the date of his retirement and in the case of a married officer 1/2 of such pay;

(ii) in the case of a single officer 1/66 of his annual pay at the date of his retirement for each year of pensionable service and in the case of a married officer 1/80, of such pay for each year of pensionable service.

If a professional officer opts to receive retired pay based on the alternative at (1) above the married officer's gratuity payable to him is the same as that for a Line officer. If he opts to receive retired pay based on the alternative at (2) above, no married officer's gratuity as payable to him.
