asked the Minister for Agriculture if it is proposed to carry out farm improvements, land rehabilitation, drainage or afforestation schemes on the State farms administered by his Department in the near future; and, if so, if he will furnish a broad outline of the projects under consideration, giving the estimated cost proposed in respect of each State farm and a description of the proposed works.

The answer to the first part of the question is yes. As the details are in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report. The term "in the near future" used by the Deputy has been interpreted as meaning the period up to the 31st March, 1960, i.e. the end of the current financial year.

Following is the statement:—

NOTE: State farms in respect of which expenditure on Schemes of the above-mentioned nature is not contemplated in the current financial year are not included in the Statement.

In the case of Johnstown Castle Agricultural College the proposals shown are provisional in view of the intended transfer of the property to An Foras Talúntais.
