Vol. 177 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Meat Prices.

29.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will take steps to ensure that the prices charged for meat sold in retail butchers' shops will fall in accordance with the drop in cattle market prices paid by butchers.

Statutory control is not exercised over the prices of meat sold in retail butchers' shops. Such prices were the subject of a public enquiry in 1956 and the report indicated that it was not possible to establish any reliable basis on which to fix retail prices for control purposes.
