Vol. 177 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pollution of River Camac.

34.

Mr. Ryan

andMr. M.J. O'Higgins asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if in view of the fact that the obnoxious appearance of and odours from the river Liffey as it passes through the centre of Dublin city are caused in the main by the polluted river Camac which flows into the Liffey at Kingsbridge, he will in the interest of the tourist industry make a grant from the funds under his control towards the cost of removing the causes of the pollution of the river Camac.

I have no funds at my disposal from which a grant could be made for this purpose. General responsibility for the promotion of the tourist industry is vested in Bord Fáilte Éireann and the Board receives from the State an annual grant-in-aid from which it may, at its discretion, give financial assistance for specific projects likely to further the interests of the industry.

I do not consider that it would be appropriate that Bord Fáilte Éireann should be asked to provide a grant in this case.
