Vol. 177 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Portaleen (Donegal) Pier.

58.

asked the Minister for Lands if it has been decided to construct shelter accommodation for the boats of fishermen at Portaleen, County Donegal.

59.

asked the Minister for Lands what the present position is in regard to the proposals for the development of Portaleen pier and harbour at Glengad, County Donegal.

With the permission of the Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 58 and 59 together.

Although extensive surveys have been carried out at Portaleen and alternative schemes have been examined, it has not been found possible to provide a safe dock or harbour of refuge there except at enormous outlay. Further examination of the problem on these lines is not proposed. The question of providing a crane at the pier was raised by Donegal County Council some time ago and I am having this examined.
