asked the Minister for Education if he will state the number of pupils who failed in subjects at the last Leaving Certificate examination, and the number of pupils who failed in each subject.

The information is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

NUMBER of candidates from recognised secondary schools who failed in subjects at the Leaving Certificate Examination 1959.

I.—Number of candidates who failed in one or more subjects: 3,542.

II.—Particulars in regard to the subjects in which candidates failed:—
