Vol. 178 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Workers' Holidays.

53.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will furnish details of the annual holidays, public holidays and Church holydays granted with pay to forestry workers employed by his Department, indicating the number of paid holidays (a) granted last year and (b) proposed to be granted this year, and the qualifying conditions now in force concerning entitlement to holidays with pay.

Forestry workers are allowed seven consecutive whole holidays as annual leave each year under the conditions prescribed by Section 10 of the Holidays (Employees) Act, 1939. In accordance with the provisions of Section 8 of the same Act they are allowed four Church Holydays in substitution for four Public Holidays, viz. Easter Monday, Whit Monday, the first Monday in August and St. Stephen's Day as well as Christmas Day and St. Patrick's Day. In addition extra-statutory holidays consisting of the remaining Church Holydays, excepting a Church Holyday falling on a Sunday, are allowed.

Entitlement to payment of wages as respects all the holidays is in accordance with the provisions of the Holidays (Employees) Act, 1939.

Last year 15 paid holidays were allowable. In the current year 14 paid holidays are allowable.
