Vol. 178 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment Schemes in Mayo Areas.

20.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the allocations sanctioned by the Special Employment Schemes Office in the period 1st September, 1959, to the 31st March, 1960, in respect of (i) minor employment schemes, (ii) bog development schemes, and (iii) rural improvements schemes in each of the rural districts of Belmullet, Bangor Erris, Achill Sound and Ballina.

I assume the information sought by the Deputy is related to the area of the constituency of north Mayo. As the particulars are in the form of a tabular statement I propose with the permission of the Leas-Cheann Comhairle to circulate it with the official report.

Following is the statement:—

Note re Rural Improvements Scheme:

There is no predetermined allocations for separate areas under this Scheme. Works are sanctioned according as offers of grants are accepted and contributions paid by the applicants. It is not, therefore, possible to state what grants will be approved for the area in question between now and the 31st March next. From the 1st September to 24th November, 1959 two schemes were sanctioned, one in the R.D. of Ballina, amount £223, and one in the R.D. of Swinford, amount £362.
