asked the Minister for Health if any progress has been made towards the preparation of legislation to extend superannuation facilities to manual workers employed by mental hospital authorities along the general lines of the Local Government (Superannuation) Act, 1956; and if he will consider in particular the application to such workers of a provision similar to section 54 of that Act.

The preparation of legislation to amend the Mental Treatment Acts is well advanced and I hope to have it introduced in the next session. It will include provisions in regard to superannuation, but I am not yet in a position to give details in regard to such provisions.
