Vol. 178 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - British Government Subsidies to Six Counties.

3.

asked the Taoiseach if he is aware that the Minister for Finance of the Six Counties has stated that the social welfare subsidies payable by the British Government in the Six Counties amount to £10 million and that the agricultural subsidies amount to £25 million; and whether he was aware of the magnitude of the subsidies payable by the British Government in the Six Counties when he made the statement at the debate of the Oxford Union on 15th October regarding an arrangement to ensure that on reunification there would be no reduction in social benefits now enjoyed in the Six Counties.

I have seen a report of the statement referred to in the first part of the Deputy's question.

I am aware that a substantial contribution is made by Britain to the cost of social benefits in the Six Counties.
