Vol. 178 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding at Stradbrook, Blackrock (Dublin).

58.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the serious damage which was recently caused by flooding at Stradbrook, Blackrock, Dublin; and if he will take steps in conjunction with Dún Laoghaire Corporation and Dublin County Council to alleviate this problem pending the commencement of the joint drainage scheme for the Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown area.

I am not aware that serious damage has resulted from recent flooding in this area. Interim measures to relieve such flooding as may occur are taken by the local authorities concerned, by the clearance of sewers and gullies which may become choked at times of heavy rainfall. The Deputy will appreciate that the carrying out of the joint surface-water drainage scheme to which he refers will provide the only effective means of flood prevention in the area generally.

Could the Minister say when work will start on the scheme?

I am afraid I could not tell the Deputy that.

May I have permission to raise the subject matter of Question No. 23 of last Thursday on the adjournment?

I shall communicate with the Deputy during the course of the afternoon. The remaining questions will appear on tommorrow's Order Paper unless Deputies require written answers.
