Vol. 178 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Ceremonial Guard.

72.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will consider having a ceremonial mounting and changing of the guard by the Defence Forces at Government Buildings and Leinster House on national holidays, State occasions, and on the days of the opening of each session of the Dáil.

I do not propose to make arrangements along the lines suggested in the Deputy's Question.

I think the Minister should reconsider that answer.

Wait until they give out the titles.

Did the Deputy see that in Warsaw?

I saw it in a lot of civilised capitals in the world. I consider an army which was able to produce a tattoo such as that produced a few years ago to be quite competent and capable of mounting a ceremonial guard.

I have no doubt that they would be quite capable.

Why not do it then?
