Vol. 179 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Committals to Mental Hospitals.

11.

asked the Minister for Health whether he will introduce legislation to amend the law which now restricts to dispensary doctors the power to certify for committal to a mental hospital, in order to empower any medical practitioner to so certify.

I hope to introduce during the present session proposals to amend the Mental Treatment Acts in certain somewhat limited respects. One of these is in relation to the reception of patients, but I am not yet in a position to give details regarding the proposals.
