Vol. 179 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Housing Requirements.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the estimated number of houses still required to satisfy the housing requirements in Athy, Naas and Newbridge and in the rural areas of County Kildare.

I understand from the Local Authorities concerned that approximately 16, 20 and 138 houses are needed to satisfy housing requirements in Naas, Newbridge and Kildare county health districts, respectively. A survey of housing conditions is being carried out in Athy Urban Districts to ascertain the extent of the present housing requirements.

Is the Minister in a position to indicate the date of the survey on which these figures are based?

With regard to Athy, an up-to-date survey is being made at this moment. I have not actually got a figure for that particular one. Basically, the surveys would be of some considerable time back. It does not mean that the actual figures that now emerge are a result entirely of these surveys. I understand the figures are at present up-to-date in all cases I have quoted.
