asked the Taoiseach if he will state the percentage increase or otherwise in the total number of persons at work in the main branches of economic activity (a) between 1926 and the most recent date for which figures are available, and (b) between 1956 and the most recent date for which figures are available.

I propose, with the permission of the Leas-Cheann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the desired information.

Following is the statement:—

ESTIMATED percentage changes in numbers of persons at work in the main branches of economic activity in the periods 1926 to 1958 and 1956 to 1958.
