Vol. 179 No. 4

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 3, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 8 (Votes 19 and 21). It is proposed to interrupt business at 1.30 to take Nos. 13 to 8 and resume the debate on No. 12 after Questions or on conclusion of the discussion on these other items. Questions will be taken at 3 p.m.

Deputy Cosgrave referred to the Solicitors Bill. The position is that it has been decided that the better course is to draft a fresh Bill, incorporating a number of amendments which have been discussed with the Incorporated Law Society. The preparation of that Bill is proceeding but I could not say when it is likely to be ready.

Is it the Taoiseach's intention to move at an early date for the discharge of the Bill on the Order Paper?

Yes, as an economy measure to meet Deputy Norton. The intention is to move the discharge of that Bill before the new Bill is ready for introduction.

Can the Taoiseach give me any indication when he expects to be able to bring in the new Bill?

No, I have been unable to get any firm date.

Has agreement been reached with the Incorporated Law Society?

I suppose it would not be correct to ask if agreement has been reached with the Supreme Court?

That would be slightly unconstitutional.

I am afraid it is.
