Schemes absorbing £7,595 of this sum were received in the Department of Local Government on the 31st December, 1959. Waterford Corporation were notified on the 20th January, 1960 of the approval of four road works absorbing £5,430. Two further schemes, absorbing the balance, £2,165, were approved this week. Work did not, therefore, start on this year's employment schemes in Waterford city until last week, when 14 men were employed. In Waterford County, the average numbers employed weekly were: November, 9; December, 19; January, 15.
