Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Town Planning Scheme.

6.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the estimated cost of implementing the Dublin town planning scheme; and when it is proposed to implement it.

I have no information as to the estimated cost to the planning authority of implementing the planning scheme for Dublin city and I am unable to give any indication as to when the scheme might come into force. As regards implementation, however, it was indicated in a reply to the Deputy on the 19th June, 1957, that the constructive aspects of the scheme such as roads, bridges and housing, are all referable to the normal statutory activities of the corporation and in this respect the scheme merely indicates the developments which the corporation undertake in the ordinary course. These developments are proceeding in the normal course under the usual statutory procedures as part of annual corporation programmes and expenditure on them cannot properly be described as expenditure on town planning, as such. Other aspects of the planning scheme relating to zoning, density and general restrictions on development are, I understand, being adhered to by the corporation in the operation of the planning control.
