Vol. 180 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Male Workers Employed by Department of Agriculture.

9.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the number of male workers analogous to agricultural workers employed by his Department at the rate of wages applicable to whole-time agricultural workers, and in the case of seasonal or part-time employees an average of such.

The answer to the question is none. The only agricultural workers we employ are at our institutions and farms.

The Minister will note that the question relates to workers analogous to agricultural workers. I intended that it should include those, say, on land rehabilitation work, et cetera.

No. We do not employ these.

Are there not people analogous to agricultural workers employed in land rehabilitation work of the Department?

They may be employed by contractors.
