Vol. 180 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disposal of Donegal Surplus Potatoes.

15.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that a number of potato producers in the Gortahork-Falcarragh district of County Donegal have a considerable quantity of potatoes on hands; and, if so, if he will arrange through the Potato Marketing Company for the export of these potatoes.

16.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that there is a considerable quantity of ware potatoes in the Gortahork area of Donegal, the growers of which reside in scheduled areas, for which there is no market; and if he is prepared to issue a licence for the export of such potatoes on being satisfied that they are free from wart.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 15 and 16 together.

I am aware of the position in the Gortahork/Falcarragh district. It is not possible for the Irish Potato Marketing Company to arrange for exports from the district, as the potatoes grown there do not comply with the plant health regulations of the countries to which the Company is exporting potatoes.
