Vol. 180 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improvement and Maintenance of Kerry Roads.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that two important branch railway lines have recently been closed in South Kerry, resulting in increased traffic on the narrow, winding roads from Kenmare to Headford Junction via Kilgarvan, from Kenmare to Killarney via the Windy (Moll's) Gap and from Farranfore to Caherciveen and Valentia Harbour via Milltown, Killorglin and Glenbeigh; and that all local efforts failed to get Córas Iompair Éireann to agree to keep those lines opened; and if substantial grants will now be made available for the improvement and maintenance of those roads.

I am aware that the lines in question have been closed. An application for a road improvement grant has been received from the County Council and is being examined in conjunction with similar applications from other road authorities.

Question No. 29 postponed.
