Vol. 180 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tourist Revenue—from Six-County Visitors.

5.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state for each of the years 1955 to 1959 the gross and net tourist revenue in respect of visitors from the Six Counties, giving separate figures in respect of cross-Border day-trippers.

The information requested is available only in respect of all persons who entered or left the State via the border and includes, therefore, both the receipts from visitors from Britain or other countries who left the State via the border as well as the receipts from Six County residents. In addition the corresponding expenditure outside the State by Irish residents relates to the total of such expenditure by all those who returned via the border, whether incurred in the Six Counties or elsewhere.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the net and gross receipts in respect of tourism and travel, etc., of persons involved in such cross-border traffic for the years 1955-58. Data for the year 1959 are not yet available.

Following is the statement:—
