Vol. 180 No. 11

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 8 (Vote 43), 9 and 10. If not already reached it is proposed to interrupt business at 2 p.m. to take No. 10, and when finished to resume the order.

I should perhaps explain that this being the last day of the financial year, some complications may arise if Supplementary Estimate No. 43 is not passed today. I am not quite sure what the position would be if it failed to pass today, and I propose to look into it. It may be that the only practical course would be to move to sit late if the Estimate were not completed today. However, I undertake to look into the matter and communicate with the Whips later.

Is it proposed to interrupt business to take No. 10 even if No. 8 is not finished?

Might I suggest, a Ceann Comhairle, if this problem presents itself to the Government, would it not be more sensible to provide that we continue with No. 8 until it be disposed of?

I should like to leave that over for the moment.

That is all right. We are anxious to help the Government in any way we can. However, I do not think there is much prospect of No. 8 going on indefinitely. The marathons, I gather, are over.

It may be necessary to alter the Order of Business.

I would prefer that course. At what stage of the day would it be necessary to alter the Order of Business?

Before 12.30 p.m., I think.

At 12.30 p.m. if necessary the Order of Business can be changed.
