Vol. 181 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Widening of Church Street (Dublin).

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government the cause of the undue delay in proceeding with the widening of Church Street, Dublin.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government if in view of the delay in widening Church Street, Dublin, Dublin Corporation will clear that part of the scheme consisting of Lisburn Street, Coleraine Street and Upper Church Street, which consists mainly of derelict houses.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take questions Nos. 29 and 30 together.

The Dublin Corporation have not yet received the powers sought for the compulsory acquisition of the land necessary for the widening of Church Street because of certain petitions presented to the Circuit Court against the Provisional Order made by me in the matter. I cannot say when the petitions are likely to be dealt with by the Circuit Court but I understand that in the meantime the Corporation have been negotiating with the persons interested in the properties affected in an effort to reach agreement as to terms of acquisition. The Corporation have been able to acquire some of the other properties included in the Provisional Order by agreement and it is a matter for them to decide whether they will proceed at this stage with clearance of the sites.

What about the Minister for Local Government?
